In this army that Beah joined for revenge and safety had become a lethal drug! Beah started sniffing cocaine, brown brown, and some white capsules. "The combination of these drugs gave us a lot of energy and made us fierce" (Beah p122). Beah became as heartless as the Rebels by attacking civilian villages to capture recruits. He became disrespectful to his elders by attacking them as they tried to help heal him in the rehab center. Beah wasn't the young boy who grew up wanting to become a rapper anymore. Instead, "These days I live in three worlds: my dreams, and the experiences of my new life, which trigger memories from the past" (Beah p20).

Has Beah changed or stayed the same throughtout his journey?
Beah has changed since being apart of the army. Before Beah chose to help the army, he used to survive the daily struggle of hiding and running from the rebels just by thinking about his family. Beah remembered a quote his father said "If you are alive, there is hope for a better a day and something good to happen. If there is nothing good left in the destiny of a person he or she will die." Beah thought about these words and they became the vehicle that drove his spirit forward and made it stay alive. These memories use to always come up in Beah's mind until he acknowledged his family was dead and joined the army to seek out revenge.

Basically, Beah changed for the worst?
ReplyDeleteTaking consideration of the situation Beah founded himself it's understandable. One day his family is gone and all the hope he had is now gone. Evidently, it made him search for another reason to continue on. Unfortunately, the army was that hope he found.
